Breaking the Silence: Testimony on the Occupation

Frima (Merphie) Bubis is a member of Breaking the Silence, an organization of veteran soldiers who have served in the Israeli military since the start of the Second Intifada and have taken it upon themselves to expose the public to the reality of everyday life in the Occupied Territories. Born and raised in Jerusalem in the Zionist-religious community, she served in an Operations Room of The Civil Administration, the Israeli governing body for civil matters in most of the West Bank. After her discharge, she joined Breaking the Silence as a testifier. Merphie will speak about her activities during her military service, about the work of the organization, and examine the moral price of occupying another people.

Following her testimony, a Columbia student who also served in the Israeli military who is not affiliated with Breaking the silence will speak about his experiences and answer questions from the J Street CU board. The event will conclude with a substantial Q&A with Merphie that is open to all audience members.

All respectful students, regardless of their political views or experiences with the issue, are welcome.

This event is CUID only. Doors open at 4:15. Tickets required.
