Columbia Students for Justice in Palestine

Good morning beautiful friends and allies who stand up for what is right and just.

On Sunday March 10th, at 8 pm (but come earlier to get a spot!!) SJP and Columbia/Barnard Jewish Voice for Peace] (JVP) will present a ballot initiative to the Columbia College Student Council (CCSC) regarding our joint divestment campaign, Columbia University Apartheid Divest. We are asking the Council to put a referendum on the upcoming ballot that would gauge student support for the campaign, similar to the referendum that was put to the student body at Barnard last spring, which passed by a 2-3 margin and had record voter turnout.

We would love to see you on the 10th and hear you speak up about why you support a referendum on divestment.

As you may recall, we tried to get a referendum passed at CCSC in 2017 and were shut down in a disgraceful, 4-hour long meeting. But this time will hopefully be different, especially if we demonstrate that this is an issue that students deserve a platform to discuss, and an issue that a wide range of student groups support, let alone an issue that is morally imperative. And let's face it, no one has time for a 4-hour meeting on Sunday...

The meeting is at 8pm in Lerner Satow Room (5th floor), but to get a spot inside you'll have to be there at least an hour in advance. If you don't make it in the room itself, there will be an overflow space where you will also be able to submit comments (via a runner or some online forum perhaps). There will also be a livestream of the meeting which you'll most likely be able to find on CCSC's Facebook page.

If you have any questions or simply want to share how hype you are about this moment, message us directly or comment on this post. And we'll meet you up top.
