This week, Barnard students will decide whether to support or reject a movement that exacerbates conflict and damages the Barnard community. From April 11th-18th, Barnard students will vote on CUAD’s proposal to divest Barnard’s endowment from companies doing business in Israel.

CUAD seeks divestment at Barnard as part of the international Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement that targets Israel. Though the upcoming referendum does not mention the BDS movement explicitly, CUAD has consistently and repeatedly touted their divestment campaign as an extension of the BDS movement — they even proposed this divestment in a presentation called “BDS 101.” CUAD’s divestment campaign is inseparable from the larger BDS movement and should be treated as such...
