On May 29, 2018, Avi Gordon, the Executive Director of Alums for Campus Fairness (ACF) and Victor Muslin, the leader of the ACF's Columbia University and Barnard College chapter, together with eight other organizations, 43 faculty members and hundreds of students, parents and members of the local community penned an open letter to Columbia University administration requesting that it condemns Dabashi's anti-Semitic diatribe and takes other appropriate action.
Anti-Defamation League’s New York regional director, Evan Bernstein, wrote in an email to the Jewish Journal: “Columbia Professor Hamid Dabashi’s statements accusing Israel of being behind ‘Every dirty treacherous ugly and pernicious act happening in the world’ are clearly anti-Semitic and deeply problematic. Statements like these don’t belong in academia, or anywhere, and there is no justification for this kind of hurtful rhetoric, particularly from someone who is entrusted with shaping young minds at such a respected institution of higher learning.”
