On May 8, 2018 professor Hamid Dabashi of Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies (MESAAS) department posted vile anti-Israel posts on Facebook claiming that “Every dirty treacherous ugly and pernicious act happening in the world just wait for a few days and the ugly name of “Israel” will pop up as a key actor in the atrocities." Alums for Campus Fairness asked Columbia University administration to condemn these statements and to take other action (read all about it in a series of blog posts starting here).
Zionists are master thieves— they steal Palestinian land and culture, they steal Jewish history and heritage, and they steal every progressive movement to twist it to their advantage— beware! -- Hamid Dabashi
Dabashi's hate of Israel goes deep, as his Canary Mission profile suggests. Back in January Dabashi railed against Zionists “infiltrating” the Women’s March on Facebook, going as far as referring to Zionists as “master thieves.” His anti-Semitic posts were exposed in the article "Columbia Professor Calls Zionists ‘Master Thieves’ in Facebook Post" in the Jewish Journal.
It is shameful that Columbia University administration defends Dabashi's freedom of expression, but refuses to use its own freedom of expression to condemn anti-Semitism!
